What True A List Hollywood Actors Were/Are

For me and my generation, currently there are 3 sections of top dog actors. We are talking THE BEST of the BEST.

There's Golden Age of Hollywood Actors

Jimmy Stewart

My personal fave movie he starred in:
(Other than it's a wonderful life)
The Philadelphia Story

Gregory Peck
Fave Movie(s): To Kill A Mockingbird
Roman Holiday

Clark Gable
Fave movie: of course "Gone With The Wind"
Also, "It Happened One Night"

Paul Newman
Fave movie(s): Cool Hand Luke
The Long Hot Summer

Classic Hollywood
Cary Grant
My fave movie:  Houseboat.

Lucille Ball
fave show: I Love Lucy

Audrey Hepburn
Fave movie: Funny Face
Breakfast at Tiffanys

Katharine Hepburn
Fave movie(s) On Golden Pond
Guess Who's Coming to Dinner

This is just a simple list of my personal faves.

Plain and simple truth:
They don't make men and women actors like these anymore.

If I had to pick a few actors that have done enough work to make "the list" today, I'd choose:

Julia Roberts
Fave movie(s): Steel Magnolias, Pretty Woman, Sleeping With the Enemy

Tom Hanks
Fave movie(s): SO MANY! Top ones: Sleepless in Seattle, Big, Turner and Hooch

Robin Williams
Fave movie(s): Again way to many--Awakenings, Good Morning Vietnam, Mrs. Doubtfire, Dead Poets Society

Younger Actors that  I think are on their way to making that "it" list someday

Rachel McAdams

Matt Damon

Seriously this post could go on and on. But I'll stop right there.

  1. I think Julia Roberts is a classic actress. Her work is superb and I have loved every movie she has starred in. She is by far the best there is today.

  2. I literally just said this the other day to my husband! We were watching "White Christmas" (yes, in August) and I told him "man, they don't make actors and performers like Bing Crosby or Danny Kaye anymore." And they really don't. So sad.

  6. Lauren - I could watch that movie all year round and I'm so glad you're admitting it too! And your hubby watched also...now I'm impressed.
Rhett Butler...I would fall at his knees. He was a dreamboat in every sense of the word. Don't forget Robert Redford.

  7. I completely agree! Actors/Actresses don't even TALK like they did back then!

  8. I am SUCH a Jimmy Stewart and Cary Grant fan! They are truly talented men that have many great films! They really don't make men and women actors like they used to. Times have certainly changed and so have the movies, but still.

Great list you put together! I've always thought Robin Williams is so brilliant. If I had to add any I'd probably want to put Sandra Bullock on there :)

  10. My husband and I had this conversation last weekend while we were trying to cast his movie. I live in a a dream world sometimes.

I heard a rumor Matt Damon is thinking about stepping behind the camera and trying directing out? Right now he only has one movie in production, so time will tell. I would add Ryan Gosling to your list of potential Hollywood Stars.

  13. I'm a huge fan of Jimmy Stewart and It's a Wonderful Life! All of the actors and actresses back then look so much more poised. You can tell they're from such a different era... But I DO love Julia Roberts and Rachel McAdams, and of course Matt :)
