Art Room Happenings As of lately!

I can't believe Valentines Day came and went!

Here's a glimpse of what we were up to in the good old art room!

First grade had a blast making these Jim Dine inspired heart resists. We used oil pastels, tempera cakes, and yarn. Weaving was not as bad as I anticipated it to be. Turns out many got the hang of the over under concept quite well!

Kinder read the book called "lines that wiggle" and these are their current creations underway right now...I'll have to snap a picture once they are mounted!

They also made warm cool hearts for V day. These are always such a delight on the eyes to view! :)

I can't wait to display these for the art show in April! My kinders had a blast painting them!

These owls were such a "Hoot" for V day! :) Can you believe the creativity shown in some of these? I mean a purse for her owl?! Get out of town! :)

This is a glimpse of my 3rd grader's single hearts also inspired by the artist Jim Dine. These are going to be hung for our art show in April, so sit tight to see the rest!

I am also pleased to share the news that I received such a honor this month when I was told I was nominated as my school district's employee of the month! Sweet right!?!

I was very shocked and humbled by the letters my staff apparently wrote about me to our Superintendent.

Here I am with the little plaque they gave me! My hair is meh, but it rained all day in AZ if you can believe that which then turned into SNOW!!

Seriously!?! Did y'all see my photo on instagram??! Craziness!

Movie Reviews!

Hooray for a 3 day weekend! I was actually able to see a few movies!

First up, the husband and I saw the new Die Hard movie. I have to be honest, I have LOVED all of the Die Hards, except for this one! This one had no plot, and some of the action scenes just weren't believable. Case in point, a main character gets shot early on in the film and would of died from the gun shot wound yet he stayed in the film like it never happened. COME ON. SO not believable!

I have all the Die Hards on DVD and won't be adding this one to the list that's how much I didn't like it!

Next up, I went with a girl friend to see "Safe Haven".

I will say straight up that I really disliked the last 2 nicholas sparks movies they haven't had the "IT" factor (personally anyone that thought casting Miley Cirus as the lead is clearly off their rocker) haha and I love Zach Efron, but that movie just didn't have that spark either. Ironic, right Mr. Sparks? Hmmm...

How cute was the little girl in the film who played Lexie!?! Her name is Mimi Kirkland and I had to google her to read about her! Seriously this girl stole the show in the film! :)

Happy Birthday to Michael Jordan!

So YESTERDAY, February 17, 2013 was Michael Jordan's 50th Birthday.

I feel so lucky to have grown up in Chicago and to of been a part of his era of greatness. There was nothing better as a kid, than getting to go to a Bulls game and see the man play on the court!

I found this video on youtube, I think it sums up his greatness! :)

Much respect Michael Jordan, you are such an inspiration and great role model to all!
What kid didn't have this poster in their room growing up? (If you were a guy that is)

Book Review

I have been meaning to review this book for over 2 weeks now, just haven't had the time to blog!

Okay so the first book, Slammed by Colleen Hoover was awesome. This is the second one called Point of Retreat. You have to read Slammed otherwise you'll be totally lost reading the second book! The second book picks up immediately where the first one ends.

Here's what Goodreads says about it

"Hardships and heartache brought them together…now it will tear them apart.

Layken and Will have proved their love can get them through anything; until someone from Will’s past re-emerges, leaving Layken questioning the very foundation on which their relationship was built. Will is forced to face the ultimate challenge…how to prove his love for a girl who refuses to stop ‘carving pumpkins.’ "

I really like this author, and if you liked Slammed, you'll enjoy the second book.

The Grammys or should I say the Chis Brown and Rihanna show?

I LOVE watching the grammys every year. Hearing and watching the artists perform their songs is nothing less than fabulous, but I felt like this year, it was the Chris Brown and Rihanna show.

Did anyone else feel this way?

Every time she was on stage the cameras would zoom in on Chris to see his "reaction" and vice versa. It was really annoying!

The controversial couple’s Grammy experience four years ago went a little differently, when Chris physically assaulted Rihanna the night before the 2009 event. Chris is still serving probation for the incident.

This was released to the public not all that long after it happened. Yes, this is Rihanna.

So why in the heck is someone as amazing as Rihanna STILL hung up on this guy? Why why why is she so reliving the battered wife syndrome? After 4 years of court orders of him having to stay away, now she's the one that can't? I just don't get it.

I don't think it's any secret that Chris Brown has some serious ANGER issues. He tears up dressing rooms, and doesn't seem to care that cameras and paparazzi capture his little tantrums on film!

In related Brown news, the 23-year-old singer is under investigation for an alleged assault that involved fellow singer Frank Ocean. The incident took place in West Hollywood, Calif. on Monday allegedly over a parking spot.

OVER A PARKING SPOT FOIKS!!! What the?!?!

I can't help but think that it's like we, the American people are Rihanna, and the government is Chris Brown. We keep taking the abuse and keep voting for,it every four years! lol

Thoughts?

I just wish for her to see there are OTHER FISH IN THE SEA!!! :)

*All info on this matter was searched via google!

Super Bowl Faves

I thought for sure my Google Reader would of been flooded with posts on the Super Bowl but I guess not! :) Woo hoo for me!

Quick recap:

I cheered for both teams since I am neither a Ravens fan or a 49er's fan

BEARS BEARS BEARS ALL THE WAY!

Most annoying part of the superbowl:

Watching the Ravens pick little fights while playing the game.
Seriously GET OVER it, you are in the super bowl! play like CHAMPIONS not chumps!

Favorite Commercial

I cried LIKE A BABY. Seriously. Who makes a a minute 33 second commercial to make me cry?  Budweiser. Holy moly.  I felt like I was watching the beginning of War Horse, which I couldn't make it through the first 30 min of it without bawling either.

Moving on...

Half Time

Beyonce KILLED IT.

Best Half Time Show performance I've seen in YEARS.

All the women at the Super Bowl party squealed and shrieked when Destiny's Child came out on stage. That was seriously the highlight of my night.

Kelly and Michelle looked BEAUTIFUL. Gorgeous women!

Annoying factor #2 from last night
Other than the Black out causing the game to run late,

I really dislike how the announcers brought up the whole Ray Lewis "murder" is he isn't he charge. RIDICULOUS.

From Steelers to Ravens even to Michael Vick the dog killer, I mean have we learned nothing people?

Football players get a slap on the wrists. That's it.

Anyhow,

What were some of your gripes and loves for this years Super Bowl?

Feb RU ary art room happenings!

I've had a heck of a time getting my slower than molasses 4th graders to get it together to finish their ginger bread houses. I am extremely fearful they won't have all but ONE piece of art in our annual art show this April.

Kinders have been working on their Kandinsky circles. They just love me when I say they get to paint in art today! :)

I plan to have these in the art show!

1st grade is currently underway in making their heart mosaics for Valentines day.

2nd grade just finished up their Winter Cardinals. Love this project. They always turn out so unique!

We have dabbled into perspective a bit with 6th grade. Here is a scene of winter trees. This was 6th grade's first use of charcoal as a medium in art. Can't say they liked it much lol they reminded me of kinders when they get glue on their hands and wanting to always wash them!

Speaking of Kinders again, here they are working on their Robert Indiana V Day inspired current project. They crack me up when they asked if they were actually going to "finger paint" today in art. I said, "Yep!"

Speaking of Valentines day, I got mine early from my G ma.
She never disappoints with her 5.00
She is forever in the mindset that I'm 10 and it's the 1980s

Bless her heart!

And here's the baby fluff God love her and her fluff shadow. I am such a lucky happy fur momma!
