What's a Perry? Er. I mean Sperry!

Would someone please explain to me the rage on Sperry shoes?????

First immediate thought when I saw them....they totally look like the moccasin shoes my dad wore when I was younger and that he still wears!!!!!

These are in? LOL So lost!!

How do you wear them? I mean they look like Boating shoes. Like, you should only be wearing them if you OWN a boat, are going to be spending some serious time in a dock...etc etc.

If I had to pick a pair, these are kinda cute!

Then I went to the website and AH ha!!!!! I knew it! They are boating shoes...

So case in point, why are people rushing out to wear/buy these if you don't live near water???

hmmmm

Do tell!

Found this cute print on Etsy of course where else! You can see it here

  3. Haha they are all the rage for guys here in Arkansas during the spring and summer months. It's part of that southern preppy look. Gabe owns a few pairs, but no worries, we do have a boat. :)

  5. my dad grew up sailing so he always had sperry topsiders. but i didn't see the rage until i came to college. apparently they are a really "fratty" item to have! i had a pair and NEVER wore them. so off to goodwill they went last week.

  7. it's the whole "preppy" and "fratty" look. I assume some people think that if they wear them they will belong to the whole yacht club community. I don't really get it because my whole life we've owned a sail boat (my dad's a boat captain) and he's always worn them. I do own a cute pair but again, I have to have them because they have white bottoms so they don't leave scuff marks when we go sailing. If our family didn't sail I would never have bought them. Makes no sense.

  8. I may make somebody mad, but I think these are the ugliest shoes! I have never understood the obsession with them. Haha. My sister has a pair and I always laugh when she wears them.

  9. haha! I have a pair of these, but I basically live on the water. And I mostly only wear them when we're on the boat. They are super comfy though, and I don't think they're ugly. I prefer flip flops, but they aren't for sailing unless you want to go overboard :)

  10. I love my Sperrys!! I only wear them in the summer, but they are the perfect shoe when it's a little too chilly for flip flops or if you ARE going to be at a lake house/on a boat because they're comfy, clean easily (can get wet, duh) and still stylish (well, I think!). They're also extremely popular where I went to college and where I live now (in NC and VA - very preppy places), so I fit in well. Haha...I do love them, though! They have pink, light blue, tan, plaid, etc...

  11. haha! Funny b/c I used to think the same thing. Eric had a pair when we went on vacation a couple years ago. His mom used to call them "dock siders" instead of "top siders" b/c we're not exactly on a boat...ever... in Oklahoma.. :) But, when his feet were totally comfy after hiking around and walking all over St. Lucia..and mine were KILLING me in my flip flops, I thought "maybe he's on to something." Anyhoo, I got a pair last summer and they're definitely kinda awesome. Comfy, preppy.. I dig em. :) If you get some, you wanna get them big enough to slip off and on, not super tight. That's the best!

  12. Its kind of like Uggs....they can look ugly to some people, but they are soooo comfortable!! I don't think someone can understand until they buy a pair. And they are super reliable. I have 3 pairs and I've had the one for 6 years and they are still kicking and are in great shape. I can understand the whole water concept cause they are boating shoes...but like I said, it follows the Ugg concept...people where their Uggs all the time, whether its cold or not. And to be honest, they can look real cute with a pair of white shorts during the summer. I'm addicted to mine:)
