White Christmas ~

White Christmas is on. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this movie. I've been on Christmas kick of movies each night.

Vera Ellen, is my favorite character in the film.

I have been kinda obsessed with this film and Vera for many years. Her uber thinness stunned me. Some of you may or may not know this, but even back in the 1950s actresses, such as Vera were suffering from eating disorders.

Google her name and see what you find. If you watch the film as closely as I did/do, you'll notice that EVERY single costume/outfit that Vera wears has a turtleneck added to it. Anyone else find this odd? It was for one simple reason:

All of Vera-Ellen's costumes were designed to cover her neck which was aged beyond her years due to her eating disorder, anorexia.

Yes that's right. She totally wrecked her neck that much from all the starvation and puking that they had to hide that part of her body! Ew! right?  If you look at all the other women in the movie, all the extra dancers, NONE are as skinny as her.

And in case some of you didn't already know another fact, George Clooney

is Rosemary Clooney's nephew! I tried to find a picture of them together, but there are few online.

  8. Interesting post. I love movies from the 1950's and I love White Christmas too! I can't believe that Vera Ellen suffered from an eating disorder and that was pretty interesting that they needed to hide her neck in costumes because of the disorder, I would have never guessed that, but that is very sad.
