Vera Ellen, is my favorite character in the film.
I have been kinda
Google her name and see what you find. If you watch the film as closely as I did/do, you'll notice that EVERY single costume/outfit that Vera wears has a turtleneck added to it. Anyone else find this odd? It was for one simple reason:
All of Vera-Ellen's costumes were designed to cover her neck which was aged beyond her years due to her eating disorder, anorexia.
Yes that's right. She totally wrecked her neck that much from all the starvation and puking that they had to hide that part of her body! Ew! right? If you look at all the other women in the movie, all the extra dancers, NONE are as skinny as her.
And in case some of you didn't already know another fact, George Clooney
is Rosemary Clooney's nephew! I tried to find a picture of them together, but there are few online.
Wow that is so sad! she was such a pretty woman!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE White Christmas too! I remember reading up on all that last year after I watched the movie!
ReplyDeleteWhite Christmas was on all weekend! I loved watching it snuggled on the couch near the tree =)
ReplyDeleteso sad!! and definitely not worth it!
ReplyDeleteHmm, I didn't know either of those facts. About her turtlenecks or about George Clooney.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, I had no idea they were related!! See, I learn so much from my bloggy friends :-)
ReplyDeleteI knew allll of this as well because it is a tradition to watch this movie every year! I want the dvd!! Vera was my FAV as well! You're right because if anything in that time actresses were a little more vulaptious!
ReplyDeleteInteresting post. I love movies from the 1950's and I love White Christmas too! I can't believe that Vera Ellen suffered from an eating disorder and that was pretty interesting that they needed to hide her neck in costumes because of the disorder, I would have never guessed that, but that is very sad.
