Pa. teacher strikes nerve with 'lazy whiners' blog

I read this last night and I was STUNNED. What do you think?

Read Article here.

Natalie Munroe

Central Bucks, Pa., East High School teacher Natalie Munroe is seen while on hold during a phone interview at her attorneys office in Feasterville, Pa., Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011. Munroe, suspended from her job over profanity-laced posts on her blog, says she was speaking the truth about students who are unwilling to work hard at school.

Punished for speaking the truth. Thats what we have become. Lie because its politically correct.

she should be applauded for her words. Everything she said is the truth. The people who have a problem with it are the same people who ignore their children to the point that they become the very issue she is voicing her concern about. We send our children to school to get an education yet cry foul when a teacher holds them accountable for their actions.

Mister Wonderful actually yelled at me saying I shouldn't post this.

I politely pointed out that I have never said anything about my job on here. I only post art. BIG difference!

And what's freedom of speech if you can't write or say what you want REGARDLESS if it's on the internet or not!?!?

  1. I agree with you. I feel so bad for teachers. Some parents refuse to discipline their kids and the teachers are the ones that deal with them for 8 hours a day... and if they do it they get fired or the parents bitch and complain, etc.. it's ridiculous what this world has come to.. hopefully you don't have too much of this. You guys dont get paid enough to deal with the crap..

  2. I agree. I understand that people are offended by this, but she is within her rights. Besides, I have friends who are teachers that voice similar concerns over their students from time to time, but I don't think twice about it. But because she wrote it, she's in trouble, really?

  3. Agreed!! She didn't name names, which is a big difference. Everything that was said is TRUTH, she was just willing to take the heat for it I guess! I just got my degree in Elem ed, so I love reading your blog!

  5. WHAT. THE. HECK.
anyone who has ever taught school, or even been enrolled (assumingly everyone) knows that kids (especially high schoolers) are everything she listed and more!! why in the hell is she being ridiculed and punished for speaking the truth? it would have been one thing if she personally called out the students, but speaking in general terms...? looks as if the people who are accusing her are simply bored with their life.

hope she gets let off the hook!!

  6. Amen Cassie! I couldn't agree with you more (and honestly - that article - is the exact reason why I was only able to teach for one year before quitting). It's disgusting the excuses parents make, and astounding at the political games teachers need to play so as to "not make waves"

  7. my younger sister is a 9th grade English teacher. She voices the SAME opinions as this teacher. Now she doesn't PUBLISH it so she wouldn't ever be facing what this woman is. It sucks because she didn't name specific kids and didn't call anyone out. She made generalizations, which happens all the time. I think they just want to hold her more accountable as a teacher/role model instead of your 'normal' citizen =/
I was really appalled by the comments left on the article. People are really ridiculous.

  8. that's crazy! i don't think she should be suspended or fired, freedom of speech people! plus she was writing anonymously without naming names or her school. big whoop. our world is becoming nothing but marshmallows.

  9. I seriously applaud teachers and the crap they have to put up with from students these days. I worked for an after-school program and wanted to slap each kid in the face. I agree with everything this lady and what was in the article! Parents are not holding their kids accountable and students believe they deserve everything and anything. I am scared for their generation but they will get a wake-up call sooner or later.

Love that you posted this :)

  11. I am sure that everything that she said is 100% accurate! I hate that we feel like we can't post anything work related on the internet. I have wanted to blog about work stories so many times, but I keep coming back to "what if someone reads it and gets upset." Ugh!

  12. YOU KNOW HOW I FEEL ABOUT THIS since it happened to me at work!! Although I did not get suspended or even a warning - merely a slap on the wrists for something INNOCENT!!! I am with you on this one!! It's a free country. Being told that your not entitled to speak your mind or have an outlet to express your feelings (I mean we aren't talking about hate crimes here like burning crosses in African American peoples yards -- this comes to mind because we just read a case on this in class in my criminal law class and the guys ACTUALLY got off because it was a violation of the First Amendment to not be able to express themselves -- that one I may not know about) but to do this to HER in a bloggging situation......which is MERELY journaling ELECTRONICALLY in public, is inhuman. This is America.

  13. I'm a new reader and a fellow teacher. I couldn't agree more. I could tell stories from school that make her blog posts tame. I love my students (good and bad) as I'm sure she does, but enough is enough. Students (and parents) need to be held accountable for their actions to help them grow into productive members of society.
